The Chava Resort Review

We ended up at The Chava Resort by a stroke of bad luck when our original accommodation plans in Phuket failed. To be honest, we were feeling a little disillusioned with the hotels in Phuket at that point, so The Chava was a godsend.

The resort used to be the former residence of the Honorary Consul to Australia, but was converted to a hotel six years ago when the Australian embassy moved to Bangkok. The resort offers a variety of apartments that range from 2 to 5-bedrooms which makes it perfect for families or friends. Some units even come with their own private plunge pool! Each apartment is modern and beautifully furnished with a whole host of amenities. There is also a common pool with a jacuzzi and wonderful day-beds to while the day away.

What really made us fall in love with The Chava though, was the outstanding service of their staff. I had added a note in my Agoda booking that we had had a bad experience at the Hilton and needed a late check out. Peter, the General Manager, responded by not only granting us the late check-out, but also upgrading us to a super-sized three-bedroom apartment and arranging for a free airport transfer! We were absolutely floored by his generosity. This excellent service was also maintained throughout our stay there, as the staff patiently assisted us with all our queries and even helped us to coordinate the retrieval of ET’s sunglasses from Coconut Island.

Ridiculously large living and dining areas

Located just 10 minutes away from Surin Beach which plays host to more than 40 restaurants, you’ll be spoilt for choice in terms of food. There is also a minimart nearby and several massage parlors, although the ones we tried were not very impressive.

The only gripe about The Chava would be that it’s a little far away from Phuket Old Town (40 mins) and Patong (20 mins), and it doesn’t help that the cabs in Phuket are a total rip-off (rent a car if you can!). But this would make it the perfect option if you’re looking to really get away and enjoy a quiet respite in the luxuries that the resort has to offer.

Apartments are available from USD 215 per night onwards.
