When visiting the Balearic island of Majorca, there are so many beautiful spots to explore. We’ll excuse you for being instantly drawn to the enchanting capital of Palma if you’re visiting with family, or perhaps the heady haunts of Magaluf if late nights and cheap bites are on the agenda.

But for somewhere that has a little something for everyone, consider a trip to the coastal town of Santa Ponsa. Tucked away on the Southwestern coast, this alluring destination combines all the features you’d want and expect from a sunny seaside resort. From spotless beaches, to an eclectic mix of dining options, you will find beauty and effortless charm in every corner. So whether you’re already planning a trip to this Majorcan jewel, or you’re seeking inspiration for your next getaway, here’s all you need to know about Santa Ponsa.

Pristine beaches in Santa Ponsa? Hell yes!

Why Santa Ponsa?

  • Well connected to the rest of the island. From Santa Ponsa you’ll have easy access to the motorway, allowing you to explore other areas of Majorca. Also, if you’re on a hiking holiday, the town is a great base for exploring the Serra de Tramuntana, which runs from southwest to northeast across the island.
  • Fun for the whole family. If traipsing around the historical sites of Pollenca or the shopping districts of Palma isn’t your children’s idea of fun, they’ll be pleasantly surprised by what Santa Ponsa has to offer! The renowned Western Water Park is just over a ten minute drive from the town, whilst the tree top attractions at Jungle Parc are sure to keep the whole family entertained.
  • Beautiful beaches. It’s no secret that Majorca has an extensive catalogue of unspoiled sandy stretches, and some of the most spectacular ones can be found in this beautiful Southwestern region. Playa de Santa Ponsa is the beach of choice for many visitors. It’s one of the island’s longest beaches, and the calm waters are perfect for swimming and playing in, which means you can enjoy a stress-free beach day here!
  • World-class sports facilities. What’s a family holiday without a little friendly competition? Santa Ponsa is home to some of the island’s best sports facilities, including three golf courses simply named 1, 2 and 3. Having previously hosted European Tour events, the courses are highly acclaimed and will provide a stiff test for amateurs and pros alike. Or release your inner Rafa Nadal and take to the clay courts of Santa Ponsa Tennis Club, found just 100m from the seafront.

When to Visit

Much like the rest of the island, Santa Ponsa enjoys pleasant conditions pretty much all year round, meaning there’s never an inappropriate time to visit. Both your travel style and what you’re looking for from a holiday will be key determining factors in deciding when to plan your stay.

If you’re looking to explore the nightlife scene, make the most of the peak summer season in July when bars and clubs will be more lively. Alternatively, if you prefer to use your holidays to recharge and kick back with a book on the beach, consider travelling either side of summer, when restaurants and tourist attractions will be quieter.

For people interested in an authentic slow travel experience, then September is the perfect time to touch down in Palma de Mallorca Airport. Not only will you miss the bulk of the summer footfall, but you’ll get to enjoy all the merriment of Fiesta del Rei en Jaume I – Santa Ponsa’s very own cultural festival celebrating the Moors’ conquest in Majorca.

Enjoying the culinary delights of a new place is a holiday highlight for many adventurous travellers. Fortunately, you’ll never be short of a restaurant to pick from for your evening meals in Santa Ponsa, and deciding on a favourite spot will be no mean feat.

Majorca is an island famed for its local produce, and this is especially true in Santa Ponsa. Eateries celebrate local ingredients on menus that really show off the best that this Balearic gem has to offer.

If you’re travelling with the little ones, there are few better places to make a reservation at than El Balcon de Maria Restaurant.
